Day 4
August 7th, 2000

We woke to another great, if not a bit hot, day.  Broke camp, planned our route for the day, and headed out.
Our route for the day:
-Continued along 268.  Tom was leading, and somehow spotted a little, itty, bitty diner.  Stopped for breakfast.  The french toast was so good, Rob ordered a second helping! The Teletubbies were on TV. I just didn't get it, no matter how much I tried.
- After 268, we crossed 321, went through Collettsville, then up 181, back to the parkway.
- Back down the parkway to Little Switzerland, where we took a little detour to run 226 and 226A, mucho fun!
- Back on the parkway to Mt. Mitchell State park.
At the parking area at the top.
The parking area from the observation tower.
The road leading up to the peak.
Proof that we were there!
After checking out Mt. Mitchell, we continued along the parkway to 276.  A quick jaunt along 276 brought us to Blue Ridge Cycle Campground.  We unpacked, and setup camp.
At the campground also was Roger Symington with his FJ sidehack and another guy named Doug with his GTS sidehack.  Doug is in a wheelchair, which he tows with the bike.  He has a rod to the shifter to allow him to shift with his hand.  Cool setup.
I want.
From the front.
And the other side.  Note the shifter rod.
Anyway, Roger and Doug took Rob and I for a ride.  WHOOOOOAAAAA MAMA!  I've *got* to get me one of these!  I went with Doug in the GTS first, and Rob went with Roger int he FJ.  When we got to the parkway and stopped, I could hear Rob laughing long before I heard or saw the sidecar!  We switched sidecars for the ride back down!
After that, Tom, Rob and myself went for a little ride, sans luggage.  We went back down 276 to the parkway, south to 215, then back to 276 and into ton to pick up some food and beer.  Headed back to the campground, and hung out with everyone around the fire before calling it a night.

Day total: 252 miles

Total mileage: 1776 miles
