We got up to another beautiful morning. I took the opportunity to replace the two blown bulbs in the XX, so that took a little bit of time, so we did not get on the road until about 10:00am. Tom was running low on gas, so we let him lead, looking for the first gas station we could find, as well as a breakfast spot. For some reason, Tom sailed right by the open gas station just south of the campground, and the restaurant. Rob and I just shrugged and we continued on. And on. And on. Ever try to find an open gas station on a Sunday morning in rural West Virginia? Not easy. | |

Sure enough. Tom ran out of gas. I was sure to thoroughly document the event. :-) |

Luckily, we were only a few miles away from an open gas station in Bartow, WV. So I took off, filled up my tank, then returned with a small container of gas for Tom. |

Smile for the camera Tom! |
After everyone gassed up, we got breakfast at the motel
restaurant next door and then got back on the road. The route we followed:
- From Seneca Shodows, south on 28. - Continue on 28 south to 39 east/south in Hunterville, VA. - 39 to 92 south. - 92 south to I 64. - I64 1 exit east to 311. Rt. 311 in VA absolutely rocked. Even though I had some sort of biting/stinging bug in my shirt that would not die, and stung me for about 20 minutes, before I had to finally pull over to let it out. |

The view. |
- We continued on 311 to 42 in New Castle.
- 42 south to 460 south. In Christiansburg, we got a bit lost looking for 615, and andedup circling a bit, but finally jumped on 8 to the Blue Ridge Parkway. |

On the Parkway got caught in a short, but serious, downpour. We stopped to take a little break once the rain stopped. |

Rob was a bit, um, tired after 3 days of hard riding. |
- We continued down the parkway in NC.
- We got of onto 16 south into Wilkesboro. - In Wilkesboro, we jumped on 268 west. |

We eventually made it to Riders Roost, in Ferguson, NC, and set up camp. There was this guy sitting on the porch drinking beer. We said hi, and talked with him, seeing if there was anywhere we could get some beer on a Sunday night (there wasn't). He had obviously been sitting there a while, and consumed a fair amout of beer. As we set up, we watched him stumble over to his hog, figure out how to start it, and almost get killed as he pulled out onto the main street. Eeeek. |

We went back into town to get some food, then hung out around the fire, drinking the cheap beer the harley guy had left for us.. |
Rob had decided to bail at this point and head to his parents
house the next morning, but after an evening of Tom and I telling him just
how good the roads were that were coming up, he decided to push on. Whoohoo!
Day total: 427 miles.
