Mom's Visit: June 22 - 26, 2000

Sunday, June 25th

On Sunday, mom once again turned to the local paper to see what there was to offer for the day's activity.  She decided upon the EcoTarium, described as "a center for environmental exploration in Worcester, offering a museum, wildlife, a planetarium, an observatory, nature trails and educational programs." (from Google.com).  The main draw of the place was a walkway, 40ft in the air throught he tree tops.  But what the paper did not say was that the walkway was not just open to the public, you had to sign up for a tour, but by the time we got there, the tour had already happened.  Oh well.

I catch mom by surprise, as she is checking out the snowy owls.
Snowy owl #1.  A lot of the animal here are either recovering from some injury, or have some injury that prevents them from returning to the wild.
Snowy owl #2.
Our nation's mascot, the bald eagle.  Both eagles had some injury that prevented them from flying.
Eagle #2.
Mom, next to the sundial in front of the visitors' center.
This guy was having a grand old time playing in the water.  If I remember correctly, he has been at the EcoTarium something like 17 years.
Mom gets a closer look.
He peers out to see what is going on in the outside world.  Either that, or he is trying to figure out how to get the the snack on the other side of the glass.
Who is checking out whom?
Another look.
Last one.
A very hot mountain lion.
Some sort of hawk or falcon.
Mom on the small, narrow guage train that went around the grounds.
Yous truly, on the same train.
A hot red fox, who was only visible from the train, since he was hiding in the back of his cage.
The train.
A parting shot of one of the eagles as we left.
