Paul Luevano XX XXXXXXXX XX XXXXXXX, XX, XXXXX (C) 781-XXX-XXXX (H) 781-XXX-XXXX July 30, 2008 Mr. Greg Reich P.O. Box #105 39 E. Main St., Suite #117 New Albany, OH 43054 Mr. Reich- I am writing to you concerning a recent experience I had with a set of your Continental Road Attack Motorcycle tires mounted on my 1997 Honda CBR1100 XX. This was the third set of Continental Road Attacks that I had run on my bike, and up to this experience I had been *very* happy with their performance, wear and handling. With the first set of tires, I got over 12,000 miles out of my rear tire, and 17,000 miles out of the front. This was over a mix of highway and back roads, but mostly highway. With the second set I ran I got almost 10,000 miles out of the rear. This was a mix of back roads, highway, and track days. I replaced this tire in preparation for a camping trip with friends, even though it still looked like it had a few thousand miles left in it. This, it turns out, was a mistake. The third rear tire I installed was down to cords in 3,000 miles and eight days of use. This was almost entirely from back road use. All three rear tires were used on the same bike - same rider, similar roads and conditions. All tires were run at 42psi (both Honda and Continental recommended pressure). Photos of all the rear Continental Road Attacks I have run can be found here: http://www.clarity.net/~paul/images/bike/continental/ There are only two reasons I can think of for this dramatic wear in my last tire: A) Continental changed the compound being used in order to sell more tires. B) There was a quality control issue in the manufacturing and the Race Attack compound was used by mistake on the Road Attack tire. I have included below all pertinent information from both involved tires. I have posted my experience on several Internet motorcycle mailing lists and forums, and would very much like to post Continental’s response. Until this situation I had been very happy with Continental tires but, based on this experience, I am very hesitant to purchase another set. Predictability and consistent performance are very important to me. I need to be able to depend on my tires to deliver consistent mileage. A 75% drop in mileage is not acceptable. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I eagerly await your response.
