Bend, OR:

Redwood Forest, Crater National

Original images here.
Up bright and early, packed, and left our lovely hotel. Found a little breakfast cafe with WiFi so I could check in, gassed up and made for the Redwood National Forest. Wow. It was a great morning ride that took us into O Brien, OR. This is where we parted company with Kim and Todne, as they started to head east and south, while I was going northeast. Sean would ride with me a bit longer. Stopped at the little country store where they have a hell of a fly problem. There was also this very cool old police car. Then we said out goodbyes, took some parting photos, and then went our separate ways. :-(

I rode with Sean as far as Grants Pass, then he went east while I continued north. I hit I5 for a stretch to get to some good roads I had read about. In Roseburg I got onto 138 and followed the Umpqua river. Talk about some spectacular views! The water was sooo clear. I followed that all the way to Crater National Park. The first thing I came to was the Pumice Desert. Whoa. After all the tress and then...nothing! Got to the top and took lots of picutes, look though the full size directory. But here are some cool ones:

As I was packing up to leave, who should ride in? Sean! I guess the route he chose wasn't as good, lots of constructiona dn whatnot. Booo!

Once I left the park I made my way east to 97 to 56 and then to 46 to head to the Three Sisters area. The road itself was boring, but the views were awesome. As I was riding, I just came across miles and miles of lava beds. They just went on and on. I took the XX on a dirt rode no XX should be on to get this picture. I kept going and the views just got better and better. Here is Mt. Bachelor and the surrounding area.

I continued in into Bend OR. Neat little town. But it turned out that there was an RV and a horse convention in town so every hotel was booked. Looking on my map I saw a Tumalo State Park just up the road. I made my way there and got the *LAST* spot. Set up camp, then back into Bend for a nice stir fry dinner, then I found this bar with WiFi, so I sat down, got a beer, and typed this up. Just got a call from Sean, I guess his day wasn't as good riding wise and ge might hook up with me again tomorrow. I'll call him at lunch.
