Galveston, TX to New Braunfels, TX:

Original images here.
Texas is flat. Texas is straight. Texas is HOT. Texas is boring. Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself.

Got up nice and early to work on the bike. My lowbeam went out for the second time, and the headlight was cocked sideways a bit. My plan was to get up early, get the bike fixed, and still be on the road nice and early. Took all the body work and dug in. The first problem was that one of the 3 remaining ears holding the headlight in place had broken off, so now both on one side were broken (this was a result of my '98 crash). So, with no drill, I made holes in the plastic by heating safety wire with a lighter and burning a hole. This took a while. While I was doing this, Dennis took off for a hardware store and glue. The finished product. And another picture, and another. Here is the headlight re-mounted. I also added safety wire to the broken tab for some added support. I then re did the headlight wiring making sure I had good connections across the board. Seems to be working like a champ now. 2 X 100W H7's, relayed. :)

When all was said an done, we didn't get on the road until close to 10:30am. Micky and Dennis were great help. We decided to head out along the southern tip of the island. Here is the view from the hotel. And here are Micky and Dennis. We continued along the coast and then cut inland at Freeport. We took rt 36 heading northeast. The skies look very threatening, so we pulled over to let it pass. Too bad we chose the area near a prison. We decided to keep moving. :) The rain missed up, but it did cool it down a bit, down for the 90's to the 80's. But only for a while. Then into Rosenburg for lunch at a great Mexican restaurant. We followed 36 all the way to I-10 and then just started cruising. I must say then Texans are friendly drivers. On the backroads they would pull over to the side to let you pass as you came up to them. On the interstate they keep pretty good lane discipline. We pulled over at a rest area for a little nap for the old guys Micky and Dennis. I read some. :) We then pushed on into New Braunfels at the begining of the Devil's Backbone. Found a nice little hotel, and got some food. An early night tonight, long day tomorrow!
